Dear Ms. Clark,

I know we haven’t met each other personally but I would gladly like to introduce myself. Hello, my name is Israel Osorio and I am a freshman(second semester) at The City College of New York. I’m very excited in attending your class because I believe that I can excel in my writing especially if it involves in pursuing my career as an Engineer. Attending college was very difficult because I was unsure of what I wanted to study, I wanted to focus on being an Accountant or becoming an Engineer. These two majors came from the enjoyment that I have towards Math.  In the end, I chose Engineering for my major. The type of Engineering that I would like to focus on would have to be Mechanical Engineering. In the past I was first introduce to works of construction by my uncle. I was fifteen years old when they had first taken me. I worked with them for two days because my uncle had received permission from his boss. In those two days, I really experienced what it was like to working in construction. Both days consisted of me waking up at six in the morning to get to the job site at seven and start working at eight. Our day finished at eight at night(was really from 8am-3pm, but I chose to stay for an extra five hours).

Some of my career goals would be having the ability to construct my own building. Other than that, my major wish/dream that I would like to achieve would have to be making my mother’s dream house back at home, in Mexico. This is because, my mom is everything for me, she has been there for me for everything, but overall she’s my mom and I want to make her proud and give her everything she deserves. Also because at the moment she doesn’t have anything, meaning if she ever decides in wanting to go back to Mexico, she wouldn’t be going to anywhere rather than the house she grew up on. Making my family proud would have to be my main goal. Other than that, some personal goals of mine would have to be, having my own company.

In the future, technology will  takeover but their are certain things that machines can’t do that people can. Machines later on will try to “steal” ] people’s jobs, their will be a huge number of unemployment not only for construction workers but for others as well. The importance that the field of engineering will play in my world is working along with these machines, therefore the process would be much more quicker rather than waiting a long time. For example, if the people wanted another stadium in NY, the process can me much faster because not only would we have our workers doing there job these machines would help us make better calculations that can be precise and we wouldn’t have to worry of doing it ourselves because at the end of the day machines are just programmed computers.

Sincerely,

Israel Osorio
